[Un]Creative Licensing – The death of originality

Creative licensing basically takes an already registered trademark or patented name (Batman, Ghostbusters, Transformers, etc.) and lends the trademark characters/universe to a developer (in this case to create a video game). This is different from intellectual property, which establishes a new trademark or patent on a series from scratch (think infamous from this year, or ...

Darksiders – Review (X360, PS3) March 5th, 2010 . By Paul

Darksiders – Review (X360, PS3)

It may be easy to dismiss Darksiders as another God of War clone, but doing so would cause you to pass up on a game that is surprisingly unique and simply fun to play. The similarities between the two game are simply cosmetic and Darksiders provides a much deeper experience. Sometimes the addition of these ...

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles – Review (Wii) November 23rd, 2009 . By Shubhankar

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles – Review (Wii)

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles tries to do many new things, yet it always fails, resulting in making the overall experience a bad one. The camera control is terrible, the game relies heavily on cheap shots, and the gameplay usually feels clunky. Ultimately, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is a disappointment, especially when you look at how games like Dead Space Extraction and House of the Dead: Overkill are taking the genre forward on the Wii…

Left 4 Dead 2 – Review (X360, PC) November 22nd, 2009 . By Pramath

Left 4 Dead 2 – Review (X360, PC)

Left 4 Dead 2 is a great game. It is, quite possibly, Valve’s best effort yet, and considering the rich heritage of that company, that’s saying something. It features great graphics, terrific sound design, astounding atmosphere, authentic tension and emotion, and the kind of addictive tactical gameplay that has not only come to be a staple of the L4D games by now, but is also Valve’s unique trademark. It is a game that everybody should try out at least once. And while there is a chance it won’t really appeal to you, there’s an even greater chance that you’ll love it. Left 4 Dead 2 should be the blueprint for all future sequels- it rights the wrongs of the first, and it evolves and refines the gameplay design to perfection. If ever there was a case of a sequel totally rendering the existence of the first game useless, then this is it. If you’re yet to dabble in Valve’s rather fresh take on the zombie apocalypse, then by all means, go ahead and get the sequel. Not only is it better than the original, but it is a thoroughly excellent game in its own right…

N.O.V.A. – Review (iPhone/iPod)

Gameloft proved that the iPhone could handle a full fledged FPS just a few short months ago with Modern Combat, but they are far from kicking back and savoring their victory. Their next target was a bite-sized version of Halo, which they delivered. There are still some growing pains from the infancy of the genre ...

Final Fantasy IV- Review (DS) December 13th, 2009 . By Shubhankar

Final Fantasy IV- Review (DS)

Just what is a perfect game? What defines perfection? Veterans of console gaming, especially those who have been spoiled by the high sheen graphics of the current gen HD consoles would probably say that a game that is technically accomplished to the extent that its visuals, sound and story presentation are so good that they cannot be bested, is a perfect game. It would probably surprise many, as a result, to learn that the closest thing to perfection I have played all this generation is not on the Xbox 360 or the PS3. It’s not even on the Wii. No, it is, in fact, on the weakest game system of the generation- the DS. And it is not even, strictly speaking, a new game. It is a re-make of a game that is by now nearly two decades old.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 – Review (X360, PS3, PSP)

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 had a clear agenda of cutting back on content in order to refine the experience. Unfortunately they only achieved half this goal in releasing a shorter adventure with fewer characters and a less epic story. It’s still a great game that all Marvel fans will enjoy, but it was difficult to ...

Once in a blue moon an innovation comes along and smacks the the video game industry and gamers in the side of the head in a way only professional wrestling can with a steel chair. The Evolution of Tanya January 12th, 2010

The Evolution of Tanya

The Command and Conquer: Red Alert series has always been known for its live action cutscenes that employed a decent amount of cheese factor. However the only reoccurring and memorable character was Tanya Adams, the American commando who stuck to the tried and true action flick stereotype of tough but beautiful. As the series progressed, ...

Wii Will Rock You December 12th, 2009

Wii Will Rock You

The Wii gets a lot of hate, and it gets bashed. It isn’t nearly as good as its predecessors, and it does have a comparatively weak library, but most of the hate it gets is unwarranted and unfair. Let’s have an in-depth look at the Wii, all its pros, and cons, and decide for ourselves if the Wii is actually as bad as most of the gamers make it out to be.

A Look at 2010 in Gaming (PSP)

2009 is the year which will always be remembered as the year when the PSP actually fought back. With releases like Resistance: Retribution, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Patapon 2, and Dissidia: Final Fantasy and the much anticipated (yet disastrous) launch of the PSP Go and much more, we can actually call 2009 an eventful year for the PSP. 2010, though not as eventful as this year, seems to be quite promising, and with titles like Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Resident Evil Portable and Valkyria Chronicles 2 set for release next year, the PSP looks all set to revive its library furthermore. Like we have done with all the other consoles, we will be having an in-depth look at all the titles releasing on the PSP next year.

A Look at 2010 in Gaming (DS)

The DS has had a great 2009. With releases like Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Dragon Quest V, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks to boast of, we can very safely call this one of the best years the DS has seen so far. Definitely, this trend of great releases shows no sign of stopping, as it sees the releases of some of the most anticipated titles of all time, including the likes of Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Golden Sun DS and Dragon Quest IX. Like our previous articles in this feature, we will be having an in-depth look at all the games that the DS will be getting in 2010, as it looks all set to dominate the gaming market.

A Look at 2010 in Gaming (Wii)

Without question, 2009 was the Wii’s worst year on the market. Not only did its hardware sales slow down, but it also did not receive any game that will truly stand out in memory, barring maybe a couple. It looks like the Wii will be back in 2010, and with a vengeance as it gets what is arguably the best lineup any console has had in recent memory. Like we have done with the PS3 and the Xbox 360, we will be having an in-depth look at the Wii’s lineup in 2010, as it looks to win back hardcore gamers into its fold…
